Our chickadee/nuthatch/ wren nest box comes with a 1 1/8" hole and is made out of Western red cedar. We have designed our nest boxes to allow for ventilation, a predator guard to protect juvenile birds, and a ladder on the inside of the door to help baby birds leave the box when they're ready. The front hinges open to make it easy to clean the nest box each spring.
When selecting the location for your nest box we recommend nest-boxes to be 10' away from your bird feeders or other nest boxes, don't hide the nest box in a tree or shrub (birds need to be able to see the hole to find the nest box), and affix it somewhere 6" high.
