Nesting season is coming! Make sure your nest boxes are cleaned out and ready for new tenants this March. If placing a new nest box out, keep in mind what birds can and will use your box and place it accordingly. For example, when putting a swallow box out (like our image to the right), you want to put it somewhere they have lots of room to swoop in and out. Chickadee boxes on the other hand should be nearby (but not buried in) some kind of shrubbery they can dive in and out of. Also be sure to put boxes up at a distance from feeders, and if too close turn the entrance hole away from feeders to avoid the activity disrupting any interested birds. Looking to put up a nest box?
